a country in South America occupying a long and
narrow coastal strip wedged between the Andes mountains

Chile -Food and Entertainment. In Chile
it is usual to have three or four meals a day, with
lunch being the main one, normally taken between 1 -
2.30 PM. Typical Chilean food is pretty simple and simply
seasoned. Some of our important dishes are empanadas,
corn pies, corn cakes, beans, and curanto, but perhaps
our most delicious is our seafood. Abalones, razor clams,
mussels, spider crabs, oysters, conger eels, salmon,
corbinas and sole are among the wealth of fresh seafood
captured along the 4,000km length of our shoreline.
Chile's wines and fruit have also developed an international
reputation, and are produced mainly in the country's
highly fertile central zone.
In Santiago de Chile there are a huge variety
of interesting restaurants at a range of prices; from
Mexican and Peruvian to sushi and Middle Eastern and,
of course, fast food. In other regions, however, there
is not such a variety: here, Chilean, Chinese and Italian
food are the most common.
Chile - Temperatures. Santiago de Chile,
due to its position in the central region, has a Mediterranean
climate with well-defined seasons. Spring, between September
and November is mild, which contributes to the flourishing
green color of the plants and trees. Summer, between
December and February, is dry and hot with temperatures
that can reach over 30°C (87º F) and cooling
down at night. and on the coast this temperature drop
can be much more extreme.
On the coast and in the mountains the difference in
temperature is much more extreme. Autumn falls between
March and May, and temperatures decrease gradually.
In winter, mornings are cold, some as low as -2º
C (28º F) and although the temperature rises at
midday it rarely exceeds 15°C (60ºF).
Chile - Visas. Citizens from Argentina, Brazil,
Paraguay and Uruguay can travel to Chile with their
national identity card, but citizens from other countries
need a valid passport. A visa is NOT required to enter
Chile for a stay of 30-90 days.
Chile - Visa extensions. You must apply for
a visa extension before it expires, otherwise a fine
will apply. Permanent stay in the country must be dealt
with "Dirección de Migraciones" (Moneda
1342, Santiago). Their office hours are from 8:30 am.

Chile - Land Transportation
CAR RENTALS: An excellent way to travel to different

TRAINS: The State Run System of Railwaysil (EFE)

southern geography the results are indispensable for

Chile - Arrivals and Departures of Domestic and
International Flights
For flights leaving Chile, there is an airport
tax of USD$18, or the equivalent in CHP (Chilean pesos).
On domestic flights airport tax is usually included
in the airline ticket. US citizens pay a reciprocity
tax of USD$100 in cash upon entry into the country.
The receipt is valid for the life of your passport.
This tax is applied to countries that charge Chilean
citizens a fee to process visas.

Arica (Chacalluta), Antofagasta (Cerro Moreno), Iquique
(Cavancha), Puerto Montt (Tepual), Punta Arenas (Pdte.
Ibañez) and Temuco (Manquehue) provide the following
services: international police, immigration, customs
and other basic facilities such as restaurants, bathrooms,
gift shops, newspaper and magazine stands, and waiting
areas.
