Buenos Aires,
Argentina's largest city, is a seductive world capital
located on the banks of the Rio de la Plata. Porteños,
as the diverse people of Buenos Aires are known, possess
an elaborate and rich cultural identity. Built by European
immigrants, Buenos Aires often surprises first-time
visitors with its resemblance to parts of Barcelona,
Paris, and Rome.
The city, as well as the inhabitants, is characterized
by pride in its character and uniqueness.
The book readers in the outdoor
cafés, the dancers in the smoky tango bars, and
the passionate citizens discussing government and futbol
on the street-corners are all part of the essence of
Buenos Aires. The city has one of the greatest entertainment
and nightlife scenes in the world. Theaters, tango shows,
bars, and clubs all exhibit the great South American
flair.
Buenos Aires
is a very pleasant city to visit year-round. Savor the
warm temperatures from September to April, and enjoy
the mild winter months from June to August.
Shopping in Buenos
Aires is an experience. Anything you can get
in London, Rome or Tokyo, you can get in Buenos Aires,
and at a fraction of the cost, plus there are many native
products, such as leather goods, that you would be hard-pressed
to find anywhere else. Best buys in Argentina include
leather, fur, wine, and antiques.
Buenos Aires - Food. Beef is the national food of Argentina, with almost
every part of the animal used in a variety of basic
and speciality dishes. Baby beef barbecue (sirloin)
and empanadas (pies) are part of the range on offer
at a number of colourful, lively restaurants. The dining
options do not, however, begin and end with beef. Fish
eaters will never be disappointed and vegetarians can
choose from an extensive range of authentic Italian
pasta and gnocchi menus.
Buenos Aires - Transportation.As
well as the busy and efficient international airport,
Buenos Aires is well connected to the rest of Argentina
by road and rain. Argentina is one of South America's
better countries in terms of transport infrastructure.
Buenos Aires - Climate. Buenos Aires
is on the south side of the Rio de la Plata in the southern
hemisphere, and the climate is generally mild and humid.
Temperatures range from 35° Celsius (95° Fahrenheit)
in January to 10° Celsius (50° Fahrenheit) in
July. From December to the end of February the city
can become extremely hot with an average humidity of
65%. In the winter months of June, July and August the
level can increase to up to 95%. Most rainfall is during
the summer.
